The Michigan Department of Transportation Bureau of Aeronautics
(the Bureau of Aeronautics is overseen by the Michigan Aeronautics Commission)
These organizations have exclusive authority over aviation at the state level in Michigan including over the licensing and inspection of all public use airports. Michigan is a federal block grant state, meaning that all federal funds for general aviation airports in Michigan, are handled by the Bureau of Aeronautics. One of the highest priorities of the two groups is preservation of airport.

The Michigan Aeronautics Commission has a General Aviation Committee, which works with the Bureau of Aeronautics in the support and development of general aviation airports and the preservation and protection of General Aviation Airports.

Brochures/Pamphlets
The Bureau of Aeronautics produces a bimonthly aviation publication and various other printed items promoting aviation and aviation safety which are distributed to the general public. The bimonthly publication and an annual state sectional chart are mailed to all pilots in Michigan with a valid medical.

Come Fly with Me: Exploring Science Through Aviation/Aerospace Concepts There are two volumes to this publication issued by the Michigan Aeronautics Commission: K4th grad. (300 pages), and 7th-9th grade (330 pages).

The Bureau of Aeronautics has produced two pro aviation videos, copies can be obtained by calling or contacting the Bureau.

The Bureau of Aeronautics does not actively utilize these media outlets except for occasional press releases and guest appearances.

The MDOT and the Bureau of Aeronautics has conducted research on the economic impact of general aviation airports on local communities.

The Bureau of Aeronautics develops aviation safety programs and presents these programs to pilot groups throughout the state on an on going basis. The Bureau also holds an annual teacher's workshop, which brings in hundreds of teachers from throughout the state and provides them with materials, curricula, and encouragement to include aviation in there curriculum.

Museums/Displays
The MDOT, Bureau of Aeronautics and Michigan Aeronautics Commission do not maintain any museums or displays. However, there are several aviation displays in the state including the very special Kalamazoo Air Zoo located at the Kalamazoo airport and the Yankee Air force located at Willow Run Airport.
